Alexander’s Eagle Scout Project
The article below was published by the North Palm Beach Hometown News on 7-14-2006 and it details the work Alexander did to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a feat that less than 0.25% of men in America accomplish. The project demanded that Alexander create a pedagogy to teach elderly stroke victims how to use modern technology. He taught them how to get on the internet, send and receive emails, use messaging services, and place VOIP phone calls. All of these technical goals were accomplished. The motivating behind the project was to give these stroke victims a new way of connecting with their families and society as a whole. Many of them suffered from speech disabilities and found it difficult to speak with their doctors, friends, and grandchildren. Using the internet and digital communication tools opened up a whole new world of possibilities for them, and they still speak about the project with fondness today.
